My Current Skincare Obsession - 2014 Edition

18:29

Hey beauties!

Have you ever been told you must stick with one skincare line at a time? I used to think this was true until I worked at a cosmetics boutique in my late teens. I decided that it was truly difficult to just stick to one line of skincare without mixing and matching.

Typically, skincare products are developed to work collusively with other products on the market. However, if you are using products that consist of retinols, alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, you should take into consideration that the skin can become overstimulated if these ingredients are used together.

If you are comfortable just cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen everyday, I suggest you stick to your regular routine. If you are trying to enhance your skin and improve it, then by all means, mix it up!

My Current skincare routine consists of the following products listed below:

First thing is first: Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub

This is an inexpensive product that works just as well as a high end exfoliator. I instantly fell in love with how my skin felt afterwards - so soft and smooth and the best part was how clean it felt! I use this scrub when I wear a lot of makeup because it does an amazing job at getting rid of any excess makeup on my face. The beads in this scrub are definitely not too harsh on my skin and they get rid of any dry patches on my skin which is exactly what I need now during the winter months.
This is the perfect exfoliator and I can't live without it.

Gel (first from left): I've been using this soapless gel cleanser by Avene for four months and I've noticed my skin is less oily and I find that it balances out my complexion. There are no harsh chemicals in this; therefore, there is no strong scent. If you're struggling with acne then these products are a great idea!

Toner (second from left): this astringent toner purifies skin and tightens pores without stinging your skin. You can use this toner if you have blemish prone, oily, or enlarged pores appearing on your skin. This toner helps tighten your skin and give you a fresh face.

Treat Acne Before it Appears on the Skin: Kate Somerville Eradikate Acne Spot Treatment

If you have painful cystic acne then this will be your holy grail of acne spot treatments! This product does not get enough attention because it's a miracle in a bottle for those people who have blemish prone skin, and skin that just decides to break out all of a sudden. I apply this treatment right after my night time skincare routine with a cotton swab directly on the affected areas. There is a strong smell at first, but then it's hardly noticeable. This product contains an ingredient called sulfur which helps shorten the cycle of cystic acne. I like to use sulfur products as opposed to benzyl peroxide at night to avoid bleached out pillow cases. The only thing I do not like is that once the surface liquid dries up and the liquid gets down to the bottom, it becomes difficult to reach with a cotton swab. If you add a little rubbing alcohol, you can extend the use of the product. I will continue to use this product and it is definitely a product that I will purchase again.

Holy Grail of Serums: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

This came in the Three Little Wonders Kit I purchased at Sephora. You only need a small amount of this serum because it really goes a long way. I love the texture and how bright my skin looks after applying it to my face. There is a citrus smell but most of OH's products contain Vitamin C which is why they smell the way they do. I love the tight feeling my skin has after applying it gently to my face! I can truly say that this is my favourite serum.

So you're looking for a night cream? Ole Henriksen Truth Creme!

I've been searching for a good hydrating cream for so long until I stumbled upon this one by Ole Henriksen. I can't say that I love it, but I definitely like how it hydrates my skin, absorbs quickly, and gets rid of any harsh patches instantly. I wish there was no scent but it eventually fades away but for those of you who are bothered by citrusy scented products, stay away! I use this on my neck and my face every night and my skin has never felt so soft and smooth. I probably won't be purchasing it again because I'd like to try some different creams but if that fails, I will have to use it again!

Did You Know That Our Eyes Show the First Signs of Aging? Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Creme

I always neglect my eyes but ever since my last trip to Sephora, I've been very good about keeping my eyes protected from the sun by using this eye creme by Ole Henriksen. I apply this eye cream which is enriched with Vitamin C during the day under any concealer to protect my eyes from the sun and future wrinkles (yuck). Makeup glides over this eye cream which is a plus in my books since some can be drying and leave creases in your makeup. This eye cream contains SPF 15 which is not too much but if you're also using a moisturizer with higher SPF then you should be fine. Will I repurchase? Yes, a little product goes a long way but just make that you don't store this in your bathroom because it will lose it's magical powers (lol).

Hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful!

Yvonne xoxo
